Thoughts on seasonal Poser products

A few really cool Halloweenesque items have come out in the last week or so. As nifty as some of them are, this really irritates me year-after-year. Normally, I start thinking Halloween for seasonal projects in late August to early September, not just mere days from Halloween (or Halloween itself like a few of this years' commercial products were released). I could use these products a lot sooner. As it stands now with things be released right before Halloween, I only bought a couple of things I can see "other" uses for besides Halloween renders. The rest got wishlisted. A lot of it, let's face it, I probably won't buy. Not because it's not great stuff or I don't like it. Just because funds are limited and wishlists are already gigantic. It makes me sad, because I like Halloween and hate to pass up on great products that make me have that, "Oooh, shiny" reaction. However, when themed items are released so close to Halloween, the stores don't give me much choice. :( I always hope that the stores will catch a clue that not everybody has time to do seasonal projects just before the "big day," but they never do. And they probably never will. :(

New Freebie: Emoti-Clock -- Fall Back

I experimented with a similar idea in a scene last fall. I've managed to misplace the original files, but quickly created this one. The zip file contains one image in two sizes as .PNGs. The image was rendered at each size, not merely resized.

Kiki Revitalized Intro Sale Ending Soon

First Commercial Product - Kiki Revitalized Expressions

I'm pleased and excited to announce that my very first commercial Poser product is now at Renderosity! Kiki Revitalized Expressions won't effect most character morphs, including Capsces' Posey. The expressions also work on Kiki 1 (and Posey) and Kiki 2. this gives you a lot of versatility. If you have any questions, stop by my thread in the Daz Commercial Forum. If you use my expressions in your art, I'd love to see the result!

New Freebie: Gummy Gnome PNGs

I've packaged up a few "Gummy Gnomes" (made with Littlefox's Candy and a mix and match of clothing items, and some textues that I made). These were test renders for my textures, but I thought someone out there in cyberland might enjoy the PNGs. You never know... LOL The textures won't be a public freebie. Sorry.

New Public Freebie: Notebook Textures & More...

I posted some textures for Deerpath's free notebook (binder) prop from RDNA. They were made way back in 2008, but I've finally made them publicly available. Click here for download page.

About two weeks ago, I uploaded my 2011 holiday freebies. Click here to go to the download page. During the same update, I uploaded my 2009 freebies from the Lassie and Friends advent giveaway. They're toward the bottom of the page here. Several sets of cameras also got their own download page. I think I'll put cameras for buildings and scenes on that page from now on. Not that I intend on making cameras regularly. There are probably loads of people better at making them. Enchanted for Littlest Witch finally got a permanent page, too.

Time Constraints

This is mostly a quick note for people I'm friends with at DeviantArt. I have very little computer time and have been having trouble with DA. For two days, I couldn't even get logged in. I got logged in this morning, but once i do, it slows down to a very, very painfully slow crawl. I just don't have time to catch up over there for the next few days at that pace. I'm not ignoring anyone. I don't want any hurt feelings. ;) I should have some time mid-to-late next week.

LOL

My Favorite Poser Purchases: Rufus

I promised I'd get back to creating things and blogging and my personal life really went to pieces. Typical.  LOL  Things aren't back to "normal" yet, they won't be for a long, long time, I fear... But... Life has to move on... I thought I'd pull myself up by the boot straps and continue the "My Favorite Poser Purchases" series.  Originally, this was something I intended to post last autumn, but Daz put the hooks in ArtZone, where most of my pics were posted.  I've moved quite a bit of my old stuff at DeviantArt and that's where I'm posting most of my new stuff. So this blog series is finally going to get back under way.  

Another one of my favorite purchases is Rufus.  Rufus was the first in Littlefox's Plushies line. In my opinion, he's the best plushie. :)  He's a sly little devil and often winds up in pictures I had no intention of including him in. He just sneaks into frame somehow, I swear, whether it's test renders, promo renders, or final renders... He winds up in there... LOL  Here are few examples from my galleries as evidence:

Mr. Sparky's Jubilee Sale (Ends June 5th)

Talented artist, and all around good guy, Mr. Sparky, is having one of his crazy sales at PoserDirect. I said a while back that I wouldn't get in the habit of posting lots of sale ads in this blog. I decided to make an exception in this case because Mr. Sparky is an exceptional Poserverse personality. Aside from being one of the most generous, prolific freebie creators, he was also very good and kind to KCTC's founder, France. One of Mr. Sparky's wonderful freebies is the S.S. France, which he made after France expressed the wish for a cute boat. France used in one of her lovely pictures soon after the freebie was released, with much joy. So if you can, why not go over and help Mr. Sparky out and celebrate the jubilee at his sale.

New Freebies: Alien Family and Minwee Swimming in Pink

I have two new packs of fairly simple PNG images to share today. 

First up: Alien Family (1 image)


This first one is a family scene of Ralph, Rita, and Ralphling.  Poser users sometimes get caught up in the "S/He who dies with the most toys wins," mindset. Sometimes, I'll personally buy something and not get to using it for months. Or use it for a while and just forget about it sitting, collecting virtual dust in all my gigantic runtimes.  I thought it would be fun to go back and revisit some older figures.  Quite a few of the older figures I have aren't around any more.  Ralphling comes with some versions of Poser, but now that The3DZone's site store isn't around, I don't think Ralph and Rita are available.

Next... Minwee: Swimming in Pink (30 images)


Yep, you read that right... 30 images.  These images started out as one of those, "Oh, wouldn't it be cute...?" ideas and quickly went down hill.  The original idea was to put Mavka (Minwee) in a her ruffled bathing suit (by Karanta) and make some retro-looking pics.  I made some texture for it forever ago (though I don't think I ever publicly shared them with many people).  So, in the pack, there's three poses of Mavka wearing five different bathing suit designs. In half of those, she's wearing heart-shaped sunglasses (borrowed from Rosy Cheeks Lina).  Ugh... By the time I was done packing these up yesterday, I hated them.  Something went haywire and I renamed all the images some how (I hate Windows 7). Then, I hated how my presenter turned out.  After talking to a couple of the KCTCers, I've decided to make them available as-is.  They are what they are... Now I remember why I don't do large sets of any sort very often. The larger the pack, the bigger the nightmare of doing promos becomes...

Runtime Reconstruction... .excruciating .EXEs

Ugh. For those of you that don't know, the home of my runtimes (an external drive) let this world earlier this month. Luckily, with some exceptions, I had backed up most of them a few weeks before. We had a hitch with the replacement drive and had to get another one. I'm finally back on the road to reconstruction.

One of the major exceptions to the fairly recent backup was my V4 and related stuff. I had given up on using V4 due to some problems with using her on our household's old computer. We got a new system during the last quarter of last year. Thanks to Ann from ART-Collab, I decided to give V4 another shot on the new system. She and Fisty patiently and graciously helped me though some of the changed technical stuff. However, I never did reinstall quite a bit of the older stuff that I had for her because it seemed like a lot of work to go to if I wasn't going to end up using V4 for the long-haul. I decided to start on small scale. Since I had to do some reconstruction, I thought I might as well install all that stuff and some of the bundles for V4 & M4 late last year. I figured better to do the least pleasing job first. I spent most of the day running the installers and it brought one thing very sorely home. I H-A-T-E Daz's bloody .EXE installers. Almost always have, but now I definitely do with a passion. Running more than three to four makes me nuts. I wanted to hang myself very quickly. Never again! Fortunately, I think I have the bulk of the stupid things installed now.

I have some more minor installing with blessed, sweet .ZIP files to do. And that's it. I should be back in business. I think I might take a breather for a couple of days and have mental health vacation after all those .EXE. After the .EXE files, a few weeks' worth of .ZIP installs sounds like a breeze. I should be in the home-stretch soon. If all goes well, I'll be back composing and rendering scenes in Poser sooner than Daz s**n.

Due to life being kind of complicated, I haven't had a chance to repost my 2011 holiday freebies like I had hoped. I won't be doing much of this type of thing within my blog pages... However, there are exceptions to every rule.

Sad news from ART-Collaborations--one of my favorite vendor teams. Ann's parents lost their pets and most of their possessions to a house fire. Ann is wonderful lady and is always doing generous, sweet things through out Poserverse. You can read more about her parents' situation here. All proceeds from the ART-Collaborations site store's sales will be going to her parents. You can also make donations here. Some artists around Poserverse are rallying around Ann and her family and contributing items or proceeds towards relief, as well. There is a thread at Daz3d's forum with details here.

If you're a digital artist that uses Daz|Studio or Poser, you have several other options to help.
